The number one infection in dogs and cats is dental disease, which is painful. What would happen if you didn’t brush your teeth for years? It’s an infection that hurts! Prevention is the key, but when problems happen in the mouth we have the answer.
Our patients not cooperative to do a proper job, so all our cleanings are done under a light general anesthetic. We don’t call it a “dental” anymore, as much more than that happens as every mouth and animal is different. We now call this an “Oral ATP”. Assessment of the problems by just looking carefully and taking digital dental radiographs, Treating the concerns, and making sure we instill Prevention so we don’t have to do it again anytime soon. We agree before and during the procedure to assess the problems, and call you if anything more needs to be done. X-rays often reveal rotten or broken teeth that look good above the gum line. Each dentistry procedure includes an IV catheter, fluids, pain medications, antibiotics, the best anesthetics and monitoring, an ultrasonic scaling up under the gum line pockets around each tooth, high speed polishing, and a barrier sealant to protect the teeth well into the future. There is now a great dental food that brushes the teeth when eaten which has a natural ingredient that binds up the calculus before it attaches to teeth.
